# Gren

> Gren is a calm, plain-text online notes app. Write, count every word, and keep all your notes in your browser. Local-first and private — your text is never sent to a server.

Gren is a free, single-page web app at https://gren.app. It needs no account and stores notes only in the user's own browser (localStorage). It is a quiet, distraction-free alternative to bloated note apps and online word counters.

## What Gren does
- Plain text — paste anything and formatting is stripped to clean text
- Live counts of words, characters, sentences and paragraphs as you type
- Selection counter — highlight any passage for an instant word/character count
- Reading level, reading time and speaking time
- Keyword density for single words, pairs and triples
- Flow Score — a measure of sentence-length rhythm
- Word-count goals with a progress ring
- Multiple notes, with search across all notes and pinning
- Find and replace
- Focus mode — hides the whole interface for distraction-free writing
- Read aloud (text to speech) with sentence highlighting
- Editor font choice: a dyslexia-friendly typeface (default), mono, serif and Playfair Display
- Local autocorrect and sentence capitalisation, with a toggle
- JSON backup and restore — your notes are a file you own and can move
- Works on desktop and mobile, and installs as a web app
